lollie's roll out sugar cookies

This recipe came from a friend of my mom.  It was one of the first recipes I had as a new cook.  It makes a great thin, crisp sugar cookie. I like it best when frosted with a thin glaze or sprinkled with colored sugars.

lollie's roll out sugar cookies

1 cup sugar
1 cup butter
2 eggs
3 Tbsp sour milk*
3 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla

*milk with a few drops of lemon juice or vinegar

Cream the butter and sugar.  Add beaten eggs.  Mix soda in the milk and add to creamed mixture.  Add flavoring.  Add flour and salt.  Gather dough into a ball on a floured surface.  Cut in two pieces and wrap in parchment paper and refrigerate for 15 minutes.  Roll out thin and cut into shapes. Place on parchment lined baking sheet.  They will puff a little bit while they bake.  Bake 375° until done--about 5-6 minutes.
